Acorns is an investment app for individuals and families, focusing on smaller scale investments, savings and retirement planning. The app allows you to set up accounts for yourself and your family members and, with money saving advice built in, its aim is to encourage saving.
Currently used by more than 8 million people, it uses bank-level security and offers a VISA credit card with the option to automatically save the ‘change’ from purchases. While there are certainly plenty of other financial wellness apps out there, Acorn has moved to set itself apart by enhancing its services through smart acquisitions such as student loan debt management company Pillar, AI based debt reduction startup Harvest, and retirement account company Vault.
