Company mission

To put finance back in its rightful place: at the service of merchants and consumers!

Our take

Alma is a leading European buy now, pay later (BNPL) company. It's focused on merchants, and provides instalment and deferred payment solutions to help them increase customer loyalty and generate extra sales revenue.

The BNPL industry has taken off in Europe in recent years, with many people now opting for this rather than credit cards. Lots of companies have capitalised on this new opportunity, including the likes of Klarna and Alma, fintechs like Monzo, and card giants like MasterCard.

Despite competition in the space, Alma has grown significantly in recent years. It took advantage of the fact that Klarna (the dominant force in Europe) wasn't in France when first launching in its domestic market. Now, more than 13,000 brands use Alma, including Sandro, The Kooples, and Samsonite. It is focused on expansion and partnerships (such as its 2023 partnership with leading payment operations platform Numeral) to win the rest of the European BNPL market.

Company values

  • Test, learn, repeat: We know we rarely get it right the first time. We accept failure, we either win or learn
  • Raise the bar: We continuously improve the way we work, both individually and collectively. We strive to make Alma better tomorrow than it is today for consumers, merchants, partners and Almakers
  • Do the right thing: We handle a lot of funds and treat this responsibility seriously. We are proud to embed integrity in our business model and day-to-day life
  • Make it happen: We have a bias for action. We remember that it is not the organization that gets things done, but people that work together
  • Lead with humility: We don't believe in the superhuman. True leaders accept their flaws and are approachable. That's true both among Almakers and with external partners
