In the UK, millions of small businesses have no alternative to debit card payments and are stuck with day-long wait times for a relatively high cost. Atoa challenges this with its open banking-based payment solution, which reduces the cost of accepting payments by an impressive 70%.

With Atoa, businesses are able to take payment in-person via QR code, or via SMS, with funds transferred in a matter of seconds. On-the-go vendors and traders can present codes from their own devices to any customer with a UK mobile banking app, enabling them to take instant, easy payment at a fraction of the cost of Mastercard or Visa payment rails.

Atoa’s flat rate of 0.6% per transaction, free from contract, makes it an attractive option amongst the sea of small business payment solutions, as does its simplicity for both payee and payer. The company has raised strong early investment that will help to scale operations and secure more users, with ultimate ambitions to become a mainstream small-business-friendly payment method and replace payment cards.
