Our take
CirrusMD was created in 2012 after co-founder Blake McKinney realised that he could answer many of his friends and family's medical questions over text. Hence, the company offers a text-first care service connecting users with board-certified physicians in under a minute.
CirrusMD provides its service as a benefit to health plans, brokers, and employers, and has benefits from rising demand for telemedical services. While competitors such as K Health and 98point6 have also pushed into test-first care, CirrusMD has differentiated itself through rapid physician response times, integrated health records, and AI-supported clinical tools designed to improve continuity of care.
The company's growing role in the sector was reinforced in 2025 when healthcare navigation provider Quantum Health acquired CirrusMD to integrate its physician-led virtual care platform into a broader healthcare ecosystem. With patients able to connect to doctors in under 60 seconds through 24/7 chat-based care, the acquisition shows just how promising text-based healthcare is as a scalable, lower-cost model capable of improving healthcare outcomes.
