Duffel is on a mission to rebuild the infrastructure that underpins the travel industry to make it accessible for anyone who wishes sell travel.
In the same way that challenger banks have come along to re-invent legacy banking software from the ground up, Duffel is doing the same in the travel market, linking up airlines directly with travel agents with a modern platform.
Duffel's system connects with airlines’ booking channels more extensively than those of incumbent operators, like Amadeus and Sabre, meaning it can facilitate selling not just seats on a plane, but also other products such as speedy boarding, airport transfer and seat selection.
Add-on products make up an increasing part of airline revenues but are mostly sold through airlines' own websites at the moment (whereas bookings are increasingly being made via intermediaries like Skyscanner). Duffel's technology will make it easier for airlines to sell more of these ancillary services, which is what makes its product so attractive to airline customers.
Duffel's main competitor in Europe, Amadeus, has several billions in revenue and over 15,000 employees, so there's a big challenge ahead, but a big prize if the company succeeds in capturing some of that market.

Manager always check's in on how my work is progressing and if there are capacity constraints. If there are, deadlines are readjusted or my manager helps me get through my work.

Duffel is truly excellent here. All meeting notes are open by default, feedback is welcomed and actively encouraged by everybody, and company details are actively shared so everybody's on the same page. There's a real culture of honesty and integrity which is lovely to be a part of!

The company values are genuinely, and evidently, followed through day-to-day in both small and big decisions. A few which stand out in particular are that people come first (clearly shown by both the management style and the excellent benefits), that we build with pride (everyone really does care about doing a great job), and that we never stop growing (there's a ton of interesting stuff to learn, and you're given the time and resources to do so effectively). Anyone can give a shoutout to colleagues who display the values, which is posted to Slack and shown in the weekly all-hands!

Elixir is really fun to use, and the onboarding gives you time to get stuck in with learning it. Duffel uses all the latest tools and technologies in building, testing and deploying its software, which is great as a developer (no legacy tools here). I've already learnt a lot from the extremely knowledgeable platform devs and SREs about Duffel's technical choices and reasoning as well. The hardware is great too - most people use one of the latest Macbooks, and you're able to order your preferred peripherals.
