Our take
Founders Pledge is a community of entrepreneurs who have committed to leveraging their success for social good. Members pledge to give a small percentage of their personal proceeds to the charities of their choice following an exit, and the community also meets up for dinners, forums and talks exploring the latest news at the intersection of charity and technology. The not-for-profit company thus helps bridge the gap between the private and social sector, encouraging entrepreneurs to apply the same rigour and thoughtfulness to their philanthropy as they do to their businesses.
Founded in 2015, Founders Pledge's approach has already proven highly successful: over $10 billion has been pledged by just over 1,800 members. Furthermore, since the company's operations are funded by a separate group of founders, philanthropists, and institutions, it guarantees that 100% of donations goes straight towards causes that matter.
Going forwards, Founders Pledge's focus must be on maintaining the strength of its community. Ensuring entrepreneurs stay engaged with their social impact efforts will be paramount to the continued achievement of Founders Pledge's goals, but if it can do this, there is no reason why the company should not be able to continue its altruistic mission well into the future.
