To develop the next generation of Internet intelligence products.
Not all the alerts bombarding cyber security analysts’ tools are useful ones. In fact, much like spam emails, there’s plenty of internet noise that either sets off alarms needlessly, or indicates a non-urgent threat. Weeding out and triaging these non-urgent signals hobbles the work of tackling major threats; GreyNoise is a startup that helps filter them out.
GreyNoise has 5,000 passive sensors sat in different data centers worldwide, scanning and analyzing data on the IPs that use them. The resulting insights and filtering can cut down security alert loads by over a third.
With cyber attacks seeing a dramatic uptick over recent years, organizations and VC firms across the board are pouring investment into beefing up security. This has meant windfalls for security startups, and strong growth. Not that GreyNoise is short on custom - it signed a lucrative $30M contract with the Pentagon in 2021. Given this vote of confidence, along with its novel “anti-threat” approach, GreyNoise has laid an impressive foundation.
