Today, agricultural businesses need to supply more produce, more efficiently with less environmental impact in a world where costs are rising. Coupling that with climate change pressures with the march towards net zero in 2040 where agricultural production currently accounts for 11% of global greenhouse gas emissions, Hectare's role is to digitally engineer what is possible and to help reach that goal.
Hectare is setting out to be a UK leader in solutions to enable agricultural farm gate to factory door supply chains. Its platform powers SaaS solutions for agricultural logistics, inventory management and trading as well as providing important insights for smarter, data-led decision-making in agriculture.

The mission across the company is clear and motivating, which is really refreshing. Helping an industry which is one of the last to be digitised was a big factor in wanting to join the team. Creating digital products to replace manual processes is an exciting challenge.

The company is at a scale up stage where there is still a lot of greenfield development and plenty to get stuck into. There is a lot of autonomy and the chance to take on responsibilities and ownership of different parts of the system. There are not a lot of divides and specialist roles in the development team therefore allowing you to work on anything and get a broader experience of the software development lifecycle. From working on complex business problems, to improving our architecture and infrastructure to even machine learning capabilities - there's plenty to get stuck into.

Hectare truly care about their employees. As developers we are all remote - we occasionally meet up for in-person sessions, and when we do the company take of our travel arrangements. The company wide events are amazing and the best i've encountered and it's clear the company goes above and beyond for it's employees. Beyond that, the management and company are all aligned on the same mission.

As a relatively new employee, I have found Hectare's leadership to be incredibly focused. There's an inspiring vision and strategy in place which has been clearly communicated and which underpins monthly company meetings so that we stay focused. I'm clear on what my role is and my part to play in the bigger picture which is incredibly motivating. Communication is open and honest and there's a real transparency I've not experienced in other organisations. Not afraid of openly tackling challenging questions which is very refreshing and instils confidence in the leadership team.
