Our take

Business insurance for SMBs can be an enormous hassle, with paperwork, phone calls and weeks-long processing times. That’s what Huckleberry is attempting to change with its simplified brokerage platform aimed at small businesses.

It boasts the ability to get you coverage in the time it takes to make a cup of coffee. Maybe a slight exaggeration, but its insurtech platform certainly can cut down the time it takes by days or weeks. Offering workers’ compensation and a range of partnerships with major providers like Chubb, Berkshire Hathaway and The Hartford, its offering is impressive.

The use of technology within insurance provision is rising rapidly, led by companies like Lemonade and Hippo for homeowner and renters. But Huckleberry leads the way for small businesses, and given the complexity of the insurance policies it navigates, competitors may have a hard time catching up.
