Our take
To deal with low bandwidth in South Africa, HyperionDev's founder developed a simple online course in Python to teach students the basics of artificial intelligence. It used small files, rather than the large video’s offered by many big open online courses. From there, the business grew to offer additional streams such as Data Science, Web Development and Software Engineering. It is now the largest online coding bootcamp in Africa and is also present in 40 countries.
HyperionDev has partnered with some of the top tech companies like Google, the Python Association, Oracle and the British Computing Society, to match the platform’s courses to international standards. The company is also in negotiations with several public and private universities, both in South Africa and in the US, the UK and Australia.
HyperionDev is making a genuine social impact by creating an entirely new career path in technology for young people in Africa. They are poised to support millions of aspiring developers in crossing the tech skills gap and as of 2022, enjoyed a 108% revenue growth year on year.
