Our take
To deal with low bandwidth in South Africa, HyperionDev's founder developed a simple online course in Python to teach students the basics of artificial intelligence. It used small files, rather than the large video’s offered by many big open online courses. From there, the business grew to offer additional streams such as Data Science, Web Development and Software Engineering. It is now the largest online coding bootcamp in Africa and is also present in over 40 countries.
HyperionDev has partnered with leading global technology organisations such as Google, the Python Software Foundation, Oracle, and the British Computing Society to make sure its courses meet international standards. On top of this, it has also established collaborations with world-class universities, allowing students to study through institutions such as the University of Chicago, UNSW Sydney, Imperial College London, and Stellenbosch University.
While rooted in South Africa, HyperionDev now serves a global audience, broadening its mission beyond Africa to support aspiring developers worldwide. The company continues to create meaningful impact by opening up new career pathways in technology and helping bridge the global skills gap.
