Our take

Imagr is a camera-based retail technology company that enables autonomous checkout-less shopping experiences. The tech attaches to the trolley and uses cameras to detect and label products, adding them to a virtual cart where shoppers can checkout without ever interacting with a human or waiting in a line.

The company’s system doesn’t turn the customer into the checkout operator like other self-checkout systems. This method presents the least disruption, a faster payback period, a better customer experience, and no privacy concerns.

The company’s focus has been on markets where shopping behaviour is more frequent, pointing towards APAC markets with smaller baskets but higher frequency shops. Imagr has also expanded within the European market, re-designing shoppers’ journeys on an international scale.

Imagr is relying on these differentiating factors to stay ahead of the fierce competition from other tech and retail giants such as Amazon and Tesco, which are launching their own cashierless stores.
