Our take

The social restrictions that have arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic have presented serious challenges for the operation of in-person adult book clubs. Whilst digital alternatives have attempted to fill this gap, these are often focused heavily on digital reading and early education, resulting in a loss of interest to print-based book readers and adult bookworms.

Literati provides an all-in-one solution for modernized book clubs, consisting of a monthly subscription service for printed boo deliveries in addition to a mobile engagement app. The online book ranges are designed by authors for their audience, as opposed to being chosen by a bookclub leader. Whilst the startup focuses on being an adult alternative to existing solutions, ranges for children and young adults are also provided.

Despite several other online bookclub services to compete with, Literari has found a unique gap in the market by focusing on paperback books chosen by celebrity authors. As opposed to engaging with a local community, users will engage with other like-minded readers, which Literati believes will improve the experience for all involved.
