There is a booming market for carbon offsets, with the market expected to reach $50 billion in 2030 due to demand from customers and increased pressure by employees, to leverage change within companies.
Lune better informs customers by automating carbon emission calculations and exposing this to customers at the payment stage, and then customers can choose to pay a bit more to contribute to compensation projects. Lune charges based on the number of calculations and also takes a small cut on carbon offsetting transactions. The startup wants to turn any business into a climate-friendly company with its API.
Typically, companies create a sustainability report, which gets buried somewhere on a website. Lune is well-placed to take a strong position in this market by taking human error out of offsetting, and putting it in the forefront of the customer's mind by integrating the data into the customer experience. Lune's customers so far include payments and fintech companies TrueLayer and Yapily, retail and logistics firms Apex Rides and Budbee, and global design company IDEO, among others. 2022 funding is being used to expand its team across tech, product, commercial and carbon markets.
