Our take

MyBuilder is an online, open and transparent marketplace that enables homeowners to find high quality tradesmen through a unique matchmaking system. The platform emphasises accountability through feedback, allowing homeowners to view a tradesman's entire work history and read verified reviews from previous clients.

MyBuilder was founded in a Bristol garage by Ryan Notz, a stonemason who grew fed up with being unable to find good work, and with homeowners unable to find quality tradespeople. Today, the platform has tens of thousands of registered tradesmen and has generated work worth more than £1 bn. It operates on a ‘pay as you go’ model, whereby tradesmen pay a fee only when they have been shortlisted for a job. In 2017, MyBuilder was acquired by US-based HomeAdviser (now Angi).

MyBuilder truly highlights how software engineering and technology can complement a very manual field of work.
