To reconceptualise neuroscience, safeguard human agency, create advanced research platforms, and build foundation brain models for AI safety.
Ethology is the science of animal and human behaviour, with many applications from its research. Netholabs is a startup that develops tech to support ethology, including whole-brain emulators and functional dynamics models. The long-term aim of Netholabs is to build a neural behavioural dataset that can help researchers improve their work in the area.
Among its cutting-edge technologies, Netholabs builds digital organisms neurally mapped via AI and empirical data. Its multimodal datasets are at a petabyte scale, one of which comes to approximately 5 billion digital pages of text. It’s an ambitious project, then, but one that could accelerate ethological research through machine learning. It’s self-supervised AI operates within what could be the most advanced preclinical neural-tech working today, all of which is used to study the complexities of the animal brain.
With increasing focus on tech-driven brain research, Netholabs is at the forefront of a burgeoning scientific trend. Though only founded in 2024, it has the backing of leading research institutions such as Imperial College London, the University of Sussex and the NVIDIA Foresight Program.
