Our take
The majority of childcare solutions exist as daycare groups pr private childcarers. Out of these solutions, private childcarers are generally considered to be the most personal and desirable childcare scenario due to them having parental experience, but finding them locally can be difficult.
Otter provides an online marketplace for the booking of local childcare, specifically matching its users with stay-at-home parents nearby who can look after their children. The platform allows parents who need local childcare support whilst at work to find a solution that feels personal and effective, whilst also providing an opportunity for stay-at-home childcarers to earn money.
Whilst private childcare is certainly nothing new, Otter has recognized the communal word-of-mouth nature of these services, helping to connect carers with parents who need them through an online marketplace. The company has also taken this a step further through its management system, allowing users and childcarers to manage their scheduling, payments, and logistics within the same platform.
