Our take

Pony.ai is a driverless vehicle manufacturer and developer based in the US and China. Its AI-driven system, which has been tested by over 1.5M autonomous miles, is designed to navigate complex road scenarios using deep learning models. The company has formed strategic partnerships with major manufacturers, including Toyota, FAW Group, and GAC Group.

Founded by two ex-Baidu employees with extensive experience in autonomous driving, Pony.ai aims to improve road safety, as human error accounts for over 90% of traffic accidents in the US. The company is initially focusing on taxis and long-distance freight trucks, with plans to expand the technology to other vehicle types in the future.

In 2022, Pony.ai made history as the first autonomous driving company to receive a taxi license in China. Since then, the company's success has continued, with the recent opening of a Luxembourg R&D center and securing $100M in investments. Building on this momentum, Pony.ai is now focused on challenging Tesla in the domestic autonomous driving market.
