Our take

In a fast-fashion industry that accounts for roughly 9% of global greenhouse gas emissions and a third of microplastics in the oceans, more people are turning to secondhand clothing in an attempt to save money and practice better sustainability. The secondhand clothing market is projected to triple in value to $80 billion within the next 10 years.

Poshmark is a social marketplace for pre-owned clothing for women, men, children, and pets, allowing users to communicate, buy, and sell clothing. Marketed as a shopping destination for millennials, Poshmark’s has amassed over 200+ million items for sale.

The company has around 80 million users across North America and Australia. Poshmark is up against two behemoths in the secondhand fashion retail industry, eBay and Amazon, while Etsy and Tradesy are also well-known competition. The company went public in January 2021 with a valuation of $3 billion.
