Our take
City planning is a multi-layered operation that includes the management of transport, infrastructure and at its core, people. The data amassed to ensure that governments and communities can create positive change in urban developments requires increasingly complex data sets to keep up with urban growth. Prospective created an integrated urban forecasting platform to transform the design, construction and management of cities.
Working on both the macro and micro, Prospective’s FlowOS combines machine learning, simulations and distributed computing to create digital twins of cities. These help companies and governments predict future demand and maximise resource utilisation, an ever more pressing issue in the face of price inflation and resource shortages.
Founded by researchers from UCL, the company has enjoyed several grants since its founding in 2015. The R&D period has been long, but in 2023 Prospective announced a three-year partnership with First Bus, after trials in West Yorkshire and the West of England. It has also partnered with Stagecoach, Transport For London and the National Infrastructure Commission, indicating that Prospective is securing its place in the UK transport market. It will be interesting to see how its market share grows as it takes on new customers.
