Our take
As electric vehicles become more prevalent, there is a need for better, more efficient batteries to power them. This is just what QuantumScape delivers, using solid-state technology to produce high-performance lithium-metal batteries that enable faster charging, improved safety, and greater energy density.
As one of many players in the next-gen battery space (solid-state is not the only candidate for the next wave of batteries), QuantumScape does face competition moving forward. However, the company boasts simplified manufacturing processes and lower material costs amongst the reasons its batteries are a strong choice, as well as demonstrating a commitment to the lower-carbon future through its own practices as well as the batteries it develops.
Having shipped prototype 24-layer battery cells for testing late in 2022 - a huge public milestone for the company - QuantumScape has come another step closer to commercializing this latest tech. It plans to continue development and improvement of both the batteries and its manufacturing processes over the coming years.
