The internet of today is built around cloud computing platforms. That means in many ways it is owned by Amazon Web Services and its competitors. Blockchain technology arguably has the potential to create a much more open internet where participants own their own data. However, a major hurdle for that vision has been the difficulty of scaling these technologies.
Zero Knowledge Proofs are one floated technology to help meet this challenge. RISC Zero is applying that thesis through an open source virtual machine using RISC-V, which will allow developers without experience in Solidity or other custom built blockchain languages to begin building decentralized applications.
The team has been focused on expanding the capabilities of the first versions of its virtual machine, and the company has secured significant funding to help bring Bonsai, its computing platform, to market. It has also announced Zeth, a first-of-its-kind "Type 0" zero knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine. This latest product represents a significant step in the development of zero knowledge tech, bringing as yet unseen simplicity to building complex ZK infrastructure.
