Our take

Slick, minimal-click payments interfaces like Apple Pay have become the norm in most industries. However, the hospitality industry, especially independent properties, are lagging behind in this respect and losing out to online travel agents and large aggregators as a result. Selfbook is changing that by providing payments software that enables more seamless booking flow, merchandising, and one-click payments for hotels.

Until now, Selfbook has been focused on boutique or independent hotels or small groups that would represent anywhere from five-25 properties. The company is now in a position to serve larger chains through partnerships with more established fintech providers.

The difficulty for Selfbook will be upgrading an industry that is characterised by the use of inefficient, analogue systems which do not easily allow modern integrations. Overcoming these hurdles will guarantee the long-term value of Selfbook as a company.
