To build a decentralized future where people own their data and the value it generates.
Although non-fungible tokens (NFTs) became ubiquitious between 2021 and 2022, they were primarily used to produce art collectibles. However some companies have seen other potentials for this technology, using NFTs to secure intellectual property over things other than visual art, such as biotechnology and, in Snickerdoodle Labs' case, personal data. Snickerdoodle Labs aims to make NFT-backed data the Web 3 equivalent to Web 2's cookies with a data wallet that allows people and brands to truly own and monetise their data.
By creating a privacy-first data layer for Web 3 and then linking Web 2 brands to their service through a suite of analytic tools, Snickerdoodle hopes to change the current situation where data is aggregated and held by large centralised organisations, and increase uptake of Web 3 by incentivising its users in proportion to the use of the data they own.
As investment in Web 3 technologies and NFTs in particular has been hit hard in the wake of 2022's FTX crash, it remains to be seen how enthusiastic uptake of this project will be, but it has an experienced leadership team and significant financial backing from firms such as Kenetic and Blockchain Capital. As Web 3 is still developing despite setbacks infrastructural projects like this will be necessary for its future growth, so if it can weather the current conditions it will likely remain in a position to deliver on its promise of liberating data for all.
