To become the leading provider of inverter solutions across all PV market segments and broaden the availability of clean, renewable solar energy.
Solar energy harvesting is looking set to be big business, with countries across the globe pledging to pivot towards greener power - and investing heavily in order to do so. It means there’s plenty of cash and custom to play for, and the most innovative companies are winning big - SolarEdge among them.
With strings of solar energy harvesting panels, central inverters typically limit string output to the level of the lowest performing panel, which isn’t optimal: one shaded panel can pull down the performance of the entire string. SolarEdge’s innovation is to install power optimizers on each panel, thereby both tracking the maximum power point at the modular level, and allowing for more granular performance monitoring.
From there, SolarEdge has developed out into a wealth of clean energy solutions worldwide - most recently, a 2Gwh battery cell facility in South Korea, which has helped boost profits and stock market performance. This regional and product diversification could prove crucial to SolarEdge: in the US at least, there’s rumblings of discontent that its technology infringes on Ampt, a North American market leader, which could prove an obstacle to imports in a key market.
