Our take

Strateos was born from the frustration experienced by student research scientist Max Hodak, who decided that he could save time by better managing lab processes through the use of robotics. He developed the robotic cloud laboratory platform Transcriptic, which eventually became Strateos in 2019 after merging with an AI company.

Strateos provides a remote-access lab that allows researchers to take advantage of flexible automation and run their operations from anywhere. The technology can help reduce drug discovery cycles from years to months through automating laborious lab processes, and is now used by more than 100 customers including biotech firms such as Amgen and Abbvie.

The company began to deploy its technology in 2020 and has a 11,500-square-foot automated lab in San Diego. Following two successful funding rounds and a valuation in the region of $200 million, Strateos is looking at expanding their lab portfolio into Europe and Asia.
