Our take

Demand for affordable eBike solutions has seen a growing range of electric bike conversion kits launched by inventive companies, who have spotted a potentially lucrative gap in the market. Swytch is one such company, that has created an affordable, lightweight and instantly removable eBike conversion kit, composed of a replacement front wheel with hub-mounted motor and a removable power pack that works on any bicycle type.

Swytch won the London Mayor's Clean Tech awards in 2019, and followed this with a grant for research into the development of a hybrid e-bike sharing system based around a small pocket-sized battery. Since launch, it has acquired over 75,000 customers, and ultimately aims to have converted one million bikes to electric with the Swytch Kit by 2025.

Following a huge surge in interest in cost-effective eTransport solutions - spurred on by the cost-of-living crisis - Swytch announced the Go, which is expected to cost less than £500. It has also secured considerable funding that will support further expansion in the UK, US, and European markets, as well as help improve delivery times and establishing new retail partnerships.
