Our take
Cryptocurriences and NFTs have become increasingly mainstream, and despite market turbulence are a major part of many investors' portfolios. The Block aims to be a reliable and trusted voice, offering insight to those in the world of digital assets.
The Block stands out for the pedigree of journalists it employs - like former Business Insider journalist Frank Chaparro who hosts The Block’s weekly podcast, ‘The Scoop’, or Editor-in-Chief Sarah Kopit, a former editor at Bloomberg - and has developed a reputation for focused and in-depth analysis and news.
In 2022 it was revealed that The Block had received significant funding from the FTX cryptocurrency exchange, badly undermining the company's independence and damaging its reputation. This led to The Block's CEO stepping down and being replaced. While it remains to be seen whether these moves will be enough to restore faith in the publication, its top-flight editorial talent and analysis seems likely to remain of value to investors in the digital assets niche.
