Consumers are relying on reviews more and more when making purchasing decisions. TripAdvisor is a clear winner for online reviews, with 70% of those surveyed saying they use the site as their ‘go-to’ for its descriptive and helpful reviews. Using this valuable information, it allows the consumer to plan and book their trip anywhere in the world.
With more than 490 million active users, the amount of data on TripAdvisor makes it very hard to displace as the leader. The service becomes more valuable every time someone posts another review.
However, the volume of fake reviews is increasing, which puts these mass-review sites at risk. To tackle this issue, TripAdvisor uses network forensics and advanced fraud modeling to map electronic patterns along with its 24/7 efforts of hundreds of human content analysts. Early 2024 saw talk of TripAdvisor going private after interest from a 21.1% shareholder Liberty TripAdvisor to buy majority stakes in the company.
