Our take
Combining artificial intelligence and cognitive science, Up Learn allows parents and students to access online tuition for a range of school subjects. The platform hosts interactive video lessons and quizzes, and its algorithm identifies students’ strengths and weaknesses, as well as checking how accurately they recall information and the time taken to answer questions. The algorithm self-assesses to improve its teaching as it is used.
Priced at £200 per student per year, Up Learn guarantees each user an A grade or their money back. The online platform also offers free membership to disadvantaged students via The Access Project and IntoUniversity. It is in this space that Up Learn want to contribute to social mobility.
The company has also started working with schools to supply courses to students in schools without teachers for specific subjects, and enjoyed healthy VC funding in 2023. Up Learn’s ambition is that programmes like this will deliver the entire exam curriculum in the future.
