To help landowners, investors, and policymakers to use land in ways that draw down carbon, enhance biodiversity and generate sustainable returns.
Tech companies, particularly data analysis and visualisation firms, are becoming increasingly important in the fight against climate change, especially in relation to efficient land usage. Providing carbon-reliant and producing companies with ways to quantify their footprint and effect on the environment is the starting point for change, and Verna is striving to lead the charge in the UK.
Verna uses geospatial data science to assist landowners, investors, and policymakers to decrease their carbon output and create sustainable uses for the land they run. A cloud-computing company, Verna works at the intersection between nature and tech, developing and researching software such as ForestFounder, which assesses land for its forest planting feasibility, potential biodiversity, and financial value.
Speaking the language of both business and sustainability organisations, Verna has been awarded millions in funding so far. Its funding will be used to expand Verna’s software tools from forest planting into peatland and grassland restoration and enhancement.
