Our take

Building a home is a dream for many, but may remain out of reach due to the cost and complexities of undertaking such a project. Welcome Homes, however, is attempting to open access to homebuilding for more people, with its customizable move-in ready properties that can be browsed and purchased online.

Originally intending to deliver only full custom houses, the founders found that people actually preferred having less options, resulting in the company offering a small range of template properties that can be bought as-is or tweaked to different degrees. Interestingly, as the company does not have land or unsold homes on its balance sheet, it claims it will be able to scale much quicker than traditional homebuilders.

Welcome Homes has raised significant funding that will support hiring as it moves to enhance its technology, create new house models, and continue expanding across the US. The company already serves customers in a number of states including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
