Xata is a serverless database radically simplifying the way developers work with data.
Like many promising startups, Xata was born from its founder’s frustration. In this case, Monica was struggling to create a simple matching application. In response, she built Xata - a serverless database that makes it easy for serverless apps (like JAMstack websites) to query the data they need via APIs.
Crucially, Xata gives businesses continuous access to their data in a rich and flexible way, while remaining a database layer fit for frontend development through JAMstack platforms like Vercel and Netlify.
Following extensive beta testing and a Series A funding round in 2022, Xata has released to the public, offering free and paid tiers. Notably, and staying true to its founder's work on promoting underrepresented communities in the tech sector, it has appointed an all-women board of directors.
No-one has been able to deliver the scalability of traditional database SQL-based software with the UI of Airtable. Xata’s biggest challenge may simply be convincing developers to believe its technology can really do what it promises, though early signs are extremely encouraging.
