To give people the tools to reach and maintain a healthy weight via their digital platform and with the help of their specialist team.
Obesity has long been a global problem, with almost 40% of the world’s population now overweight or obese. However, new weight loss drugs such as Wegovy and Ozempic have provided a radical solution to the obesity epidemic, with knock-on effects for heart disease and diabetes, among many other conditions long considered to be intractable.
Yazen Health, a digital health startup from Sweden, is one of several healthtech companies moving to take advantage of these new treatments. Recognising that medication alone isn’t sufficient for permanent weight loss, the company aims to combine clinical treatment with lifestyle changes around nutrition and physical fitness, all delivered through its mobile app. With strong Trustpilot reviews and revenues growing in double digits as testament to its effectiveness, the company has expanded into Europe, beginning with Norway and Spain.
Yazen’s success has gained the attention of the investment community and the company closed a significant seed funding round, which will be used to further its European expansion. While this may bring it into direct competition with other weight loss companies such as Embla and Manual, perhaps a more significant risk for Yazen is industry wide – shortages in the popular weight loss medications have led to price spikes, and health concerns are causing growing regulatory scrutiny. However, if it can navigate through these initial difficulties, Yazen is showing every sign of developing into a significant business in this space.
