Our take
Although digital payment methods have been adopted in many parts of the world, cash still dominates transactions in others, such as in the Middle East. Ziina is bringing digital finance services to the region, with a peer-to-peer mobile application.
Ziina is only one in many additions to the growing middle eastern fintech ecosystem – driven in part by emerging fintech-friendly regulation – though it will launch as the first P2P payments solution in the UAE. Importantly, the app allows transactions to be made without an IBAN or SWIFT code, requiring only a mobile number, so transactions run quicker than the norm for the region. Additionally, the Ziina app allows payments to be sent with a note or gif, to add personalisation to the user experience.
Ziina has seen considerable investment including from executives at Paypal and Venmo, demonstrating that the product is held in high regard by established industry forces. The company is currently focussed on 2-click payments, but also has ambitions to adapt into investment and cryptocurrency services in the future.

One of our engineer's, Vlad, felt inspired to make a vending machine that you could pay through the app, so we built it and christened it the ZiiFridge. Our designer decided businesses shouldn't have to leave Instagram or Whatsapp when interfacing with customers so we built the ZiiBoard, a payments keyboard that lets you generate invoices from any app. We're constantly looking for ways to put new technology to use in ways that will delight our customers.
