The tech sector has a problem: after years of rapid growth it is becoming difficult to access talent, whether locally or remote. At the same time investments in education across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region have yielded a large cohort of computer science and software engineering graduates, but due to the undeveloped local job market unemployment is shockingly high. Menara exists to bring these two groups together - allowing startups to access vetted talent, and equipping that talent with the confidence and skills needed to succeed in the tech sector.
Manara provides a 4-month training course to prepare its candidates for the European and US markets, landing 80% of its alumni with tech jobs or allowing them to increase their salary by 300%. But they are not the only startup to have noticed the untapped potential of the MENA talent pool, and face competition from regional edtech firms Englease, Abwaab and almentor.net. However, Manara's focus on women, who make up the majority of qualified candidates, and are also the most heavily unemployed, is both socially beneficial and likely to give it an edge.
Manara secured significant investment in a pre-seed funding round, led by Stripe and the founders of LinkedIn and Y Combinator. With it, the company has been scaling up its job and placement program, whilst also developing a self-service platform to support their candidates. If you're looking for an exciting opportunity with a rapidly growing company which is making a social impact, Manara might be one to keep firmly in mind.
