Make the world spend less time in meetings.
tl;dv is one of a number of new startups looking to combat the growing, and aggravating, number of video meetings that have cropped up over recent years. Its Google Chrome recording extension allows users to record video meetings with key moments marked, so they can be both reviewed when needed and distributed to team members who can’t or don’t strictly need to attend.
The company is operating in a razor thin market niche - but it’s proving to be a good bet so far. Google Workspace, for example, recently stopped providing their premium meeting recording feature free of charge to customers in the education sector. Plus, whilst there’s a number of competitors making similar moves in the meeting recording space (Loom, Rewatch, Sembly, to name a few), none are directly competing with tl;dv’s ‘key moments’ annotation feature.
It’s a simple function, but it’s one that has already proven hugely popular across Google video searches and Youtube. tl;dv’s incorporation of this into what is otherwise a standard video-recording tool makes for a remarkably unique product. Its simplicity, however, may also prove risky. The company may need to push for deep market penetration, or expand its offering, to continue attracting customers.
