To drive a global transition away from unsustainably resourced ingredients to bio-fermented ingredients in a way that benefits everyone – people, producers, and the planet.
Emerging from stealth in September 2023, Twig is tackling the growing problem of harmful food ingredients through its innovative AI technology and robotics. Twig’s technology accelerates testing processes that can take years with traditional methods. It analyses thousands of strains of bio-fermented bacteria cells for their environmental impact, commercial benefit, and feasibility via automation.
Another benefit of Twigs AI-driven bacteria testing is that it takes out human error and biases, quickly discovering the bacteria that have potential as an alternative food ingredient. Automated testing constructs bacteria building blocks before robotic tools handle and analyse them, then, the data is passed over to AI to compute the data and deliver results. This fast-acting process aims to help companies accelerate the move away from unsustainably sourced ingredients like petrochemicals to bio-fermented solutions.
The potential for Twig is massive, benefitting supply chains, food producers, and consumer health. Emerging with £3 million in seed funding, Twig is focused on further developing its product for market.
