Who you are

8+ years of professional experience designing, building, and maintaining large-scale backend software products and systems
Expertise in Ruby programming language and Ruby on Rails web application framework
Working knowledge of relational databases, database schema design, designing APIs, and security lifecycle best practices
Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning skills
Familiarity with building and scaling a distributed systems environment built with Kubernetes, Docker, and GCP or similar tools

What the job involves

Guideline is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our expanding engineering team
You will join a distributed team of remote employees and employees based near our offices
As a Backend Engineer on an agile team, you will build upon our growing line of products that bring the possibility of a safe retirement to more people
Scope projects and design systems architecture for usability and scaling our products
Develop features that improve complex processes and systems, making them more robust and performant with less human intervention
Build elegant software from the ground up by creating user interfaces, using message queuing infrastructure, streamlining operations and designing systems architecture
Proactively identify areas of improvement in the infrastructure, propose innovative solutions, and implement changes to continuously improve the development lifecycle and system health
Champion best practices in software development, including code reviews, test automation, and continuous integration, ensuring code quality and operational excellence
Write clear, comprehensive documentation for system architecture, design decisions, and operational procedures
Work with a group of passionate technologists to help automate administrative tasks and build unique solutions to solve our users' problems

Guideline spotted this oversight as an opportunity to jump in and offer small businesses an affordable 401(K). It generates income by charging each business a flat monthly fee per participant.

The company now manages retirement plans for hundreds of thousands of people in over 40,000 companies and has accumulated over $8 billion in assets under management. Benefits providers Intuit, Gusto, and Square all use Guideline as their 401(K) partners.
