Who you are
- An ideal candidate operates with significant autonomy and independence, showing high judgment in decisions that have financial, business, operational, or customer implications

- 5+ years of experience in business finance, forecast & budgeting, or other finance-focused competency experience
- Demonstrated experience partnering closely with product managers to build products at scale
- Experience in managing multiple competing priorities effectively
- Strategic thinking with demonstrated business judgement and quantitative skills
- Expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, and business case development
- Strong understanding of financial statements
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights

What the job involves
- We're seeking a highly motivated and analytical Senior Finance Manager to join our Strategic finance team and become a critical business partner to our product team
- In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in driving product strategy and profitability by providing insightful financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic recommendations
- Strategic Business Partnering: Serve as the primary finance partner to the product team, providing financial guidance and support for strategic decision-making
- Business Case Development: Partner with product team to create robust business cases for new product initiatives, features, and investments, evaluating potential ROI and financial impact
- Financial Modeling & Forecasting: Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to forecast product revenue, costs, and profitability, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business objectives
- Performance & ROI Analysis: Evaluate ROI and analyze product performance against targets, identify key trends, and provide actionable insights to drive product optimization and growth
- Reporting & Communication: Prepare and present clear and concise financial reports and insights to senior management, facilitating effective communication and decision-making
- Create bridges between teams and ensure shared understanding. Provide ongoing updates to the Finance (Local and Global teams) and leadership team
- Work closely with accounting to ensure accurate product-related financial reporting
Our take
Billions of people across the globe are unable to access traditional forms of credit, typically because of a lack of credit history or inconsistencies in their records. When making credit decisions, banks will rely on third party credit scores, whilst online lenders look at an applicant's financial history.
Tala is addressing this shut-out segment with an innovative model to assessing eligibility for a loan. Focusing on behavioral data tracked through its Android app, it creates a custom credit profile by analysing a customer's texts and calls logs, merchant transactions and overall app usage. Its machine learning algorithms then evaluate individual risk and provide instant loans.
More than 2 million people in emerging markets in countries such as India and Kenya have borrowed through Tala. The business has lent over $1 billion to consumers to date and is now scaling up its operations in India. It does face competition from the likes of Branch, but has nonetheless made promising strides thus far.
