Company mission
To make running a small business as easy as possible.
Role
Who you are
- Significant experience in platform engineering, DevOps or developer tooling, including building platforms or tooling that other engineers depend on
- A track record of designing and rolling out golden paths, paved roads or self-service platforms, and getting teams to adopt them
- Deep experience with CI/CD at scale (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Octopus Deploy or similar)
- Strong hands-on Kubernetes and Docker experience, including setting standards for teams who deploy to it
- Experience with GitOps and progressive delivery (Flux, Argo CD, Flagger or similar)
- Strong infrastructure and platform coding skills with tools such as Terraform
- Someone who embraces AI as part of how they work, moves faster, automates repetitive stuff and focuses on the problems that matter, while knowing when to apply their own judgement
- Proficiency in Go, C#, Python or PowerShell, with experience building tools that other developers use
- A good understanding of how application teams build software, ideally with .NET experience
- A strong product mindset: you talk to your users, measure outcomes and prioritise based on evidence
- Someone who enjoys being in the office and close to the people they support. You’d rather sit with a team for a morning than guess from a backlog
- The ability to influence across teams and explain trade-offs clearly to engineers, leads and leadership
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising the bar in a team
What the job involves
- Developer Enablement’s mission is to build golden paths from repo to production that are fast, safe and self-service. We look after the tooling, pipelines and Kubernetes experience our product engineers use every day, so they can spend their time shipping features instead of fighting infrastructure
- As a Senior Engineer you’ll help set the direction for the team from day one. You’ll shape what our developer platform looks like, decide where we invest first and take engineers with you on the journey. You can’t do that from a distance. You’ll spend real time in the office with our product teams, sitting alongside developers, and seeing the friction first-hand. What you learn there becomes the roadmap
- Spend time in the office with product engineering teams, building relationships with developers and leads and understanding how they build, test and ship
- Turn what you see on the ground into a clear developer experience roadmap, and agree priorities with engineering leads and Platform Engineering
- Own the design of our application golden paths, and drive adoption across our services
- Shape our Internal Developer Platform (IDP), so a new service can go from idea to production through self-service provisioning with standards built in
- Drive progressive delivery with Flux, making releases safer, faster and more automated
- Set the standards for how product teams use Kubernetes, including cluster conventions, RBAC, product engineering CRDs and developer tooling such as Headlamp and Mirrord
- Define standards for configuration, variables and secrets, and build automated validation so they’re easy to follow
- Lead service autodiscovery, dependency mapping and health check standards across the estate, working closely with SRE
- Lead by example with AI, using it to speed up delivery and helping the team adopt it safely and effectively
- Have a data driven mindset, using it to measure developer experience (e.g. lead time, deployment frequency, onboarding time, developer feedback) and use it to show impact and guide decisions
- Mentor engineers in the team, review designs and code, and help build a culture that treats developers as customers
- Write clear documentation and work directly with product engineers to understand their pain points and remove friction
Application process
- If you’d like to progress your career within our fast growing, profitable fintech then click apply and we will aim to get back to you within 3 working days (during busy periods this could take up to 5 working days.)
- Stage 1: 30 minute call with a Talent Partner
- Stage 2: 75 minute technical tech & questions with the Developer Enablement Team lead & Team member (Video call)
- Stage 3: 30 minute interview with our Head of Platform

Our take
Capital on Tap is going against the national trend which, since the financial crash in 2008, has seen the banks dial back the amount they lend to SMEs by 50%. Yet, in that same time, the number of UK SMEs has risen by 30%.
UK SMEs are the backbone of a complex economy that is constantly changing so the need for fast and responsive access to finance is becoming more and more important to ensure their success and growth.
Capital on Tap allows British SMEs access to a credit card with up to £250,000 credit within minutes. Gone are the days when waiting up to eight weeks for a loan decision was viable.
The company has raised significant funding too, which has allowed it to expand to the US and accelerate small business growth. With the company reporting to have attracted more than 200,000 SMEs to use its service and these users have spent over £10B, Capital on Tap is certainly on track for even more success.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Capital on Tap
Fay Sumner (Head of Talent)
- At Capital on Tap, we want to be a place where a diverse mix of talented people want to come and do their best work but most importantly feel included and be their authentic selves. We are fully focused on equality and believe deeply in diversity of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, ability, national origin and all the other characteristics that make us who we are.
- We have put a lot of time into developing an inclusive recruitment strategy to ensure our hiring practices are as inclusive as possible. All hiring managers have attended inclusive recruitment training and we have introduced objective skills testing.
- When speaking to teams across the company, the majority of teams felt that we are a diverse community with a huge mix of backgrounds and many people commented it was the most diverse place they’ve worked.
- Over the last year, we have started to share our own stories and experiences. Groups across the company commented how much they have enjoyed learning from each other and educating ourselves on different areas of diversity. They also felt these talks and discussions bridge the gap between different offices and teams.
- We have celebrated and recognised pride weeks, we spent the week highlighting the culture of South Asian heritage month and have also learnt about Black History in both the US and UK and LGBTQ+ History across the world through film and book discussions.
- We have reflected on our own mental health and how to support ourselves and others. Senior leaders have spoken openly about their experiences and struggles, embedding a culture where it’s ok to speak up if or when you need support. We partnered with That Day mental health support for our UK employees so that everyone is able to access the support and help when they need it.
- Rolled out inclusive management training to all managers on how to run an inclusive and purposeful 1-on-1 and how to create belonging in distributed teams. We have recently rolled out Management on Tap training sessions with the aim to support our managers to feel confident to support their team in the best way possible.
- These commitments are just a snippet of what we have done so far and something that we regularly visit and discuss within Capital on Tap as we know our job is never done. We continuously challenge ourselves to ensure we are taking the right approach, to ensure that we are and continue to be a diverse and inclusive place to work.
