Who you are
- An understanding of cloud computing concepts and a familiarity with major cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure
- An interest in solving puzzles and problems in unconventional ways
- Familiarity with common security vulnerabilities, threats, and attack vectors
- Some experience with security tools such as vulnerability scanners, SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, and antivirus systems
- Advanced knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate the boring stuff
What the job involves
- As a Principal Engineer with the U.S. Threat Operations team, you will work with the information security teams to help defend Ivanti and its resources from foreign and domestic threats, enforce safe computing standards and policies, and be part of larger incident response teams as well as support Threat Operations daily activities and functions
- The primary focus of this position in Information Security is to provide expert-level workload automation and incident response while collaborating with internal stakeholders, IT, and product engineering teams to present a unified security posture to our customers and the world
- You will be expected to mentor analysts and staff and act as a subject-matter expert in conjunction with other Threat Operations and Infosec managers
- Ivanti's Security Department is responsible for implementing and maintaining organization-wide information security policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures
- The security team works collaboratively with other business units to document business requirements, then solves for those requirements through a variety of aligned platforms which make up our enterprise architecture
- The teams ultimate goal is to keep Ivanti, our data, our customers and employees safe
- Provide security automation and incident response expertise for the whole of information security to further the goal of defending Ivanti from all threats
- Bring substantial knowledge in scripting and programming to the team and utilize it in a meaningful way to complete goals and objectives for the organization
- Participate in and lead incident response teams, as required
- Participate in the Digital Forensic & Investigations Team in high-tech investigations in the form of electronic evidence, computer forensic analysis, e-mail analysis, data recovery, and network assessments in support of our Legal, Talent, Confidentiality, and Insider Threat organizations
- Assist in post-incident analysis and documentation to improve incident response processes
- Create detection and alerting content for various security tools based on current events, research, and personal knowledge
- Support the implementation of new security tools and infrastructure as code, as required
- Participate in hypothesis-driven threat-hunting exercises using existing and alternative toolsets as well as programmatic tools
- Perform research on emerging threats and update detection rules, threat models, and other tools
- Support audit, continuous monitoring, and verification projects to ensure detection/response tools and vulnerability management tools to verify systems are operating appropriately
- Support compliance and audit teams in standards-based audits and evidence gathering to maintain Ivanti’s various certifications
- Act as a mentor for other analysts in learning new skills and growing their careers
- Self-direct and operate with reduced oversight in day-to-day tasks
- Observe day-to-day operations and devise and implement improvements to processes and technologies that increase our efficiency and security
- Evaluate new technologies and processes that enhance security capabilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize and address identified vulnerabilities and other security issues
- Stay updated on the latest trends and developments in cloud security and related technologies and teach others about them
- Organize and lead hypothesis-driven threat-hunting exercises using existing and alternative toolsets
- Manage, share, and generate threat Intelligence on relevant threat groups
- Contribute to metrics to verify the program is operating correctly
