Role
Who you are
- 2+ years of experience in software development
- Expertise in backend development using languages such as Go, Python, or Java, with a solid grasp of cloud-native architectures
- Strong grasp of system design, data modeling, and software engineering fundamentals
- Care for correctness-critical systems—idempotency, reconciliation, and reasoning carefully about failure modes when money is at stake
- Strong ownership mindset, with a track record of delivering high-quality projects end to end in cross-functional environments and raising team-wide technical standards
- Proven ability to simplify complex problems, make sound tradeoffs, and drive alignment across diverse stakeholders
- Interest in blockchain fundamentals—EVM, smart contracts, wallets, on-chain settlement—or a strong appetite to go deep quickly
What the job involves
- As a Software Engineer, you’ll build and own backend services, infrastructure, and data systems that support Robinhood’s next-generation crypto, web3, and wallet offerings
- You’ll develop innovative solutions to deliver a best-in-class trading experience for cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets—including perpetual futures—to customers worldwide, while solving complex scalability and correctness challenges in an environment where the systems you build move real customer assets continuously around the clock
- The Robinhood Wallet team’s mission is to democratize access to financial services worldwide by leveraging DeFi protocols and Robinhood Chain. The team builds non-custodial consumer products, self-custody experiences, and seamless cross-chain trading capabilities
- The Tokenization team’s mission is to bring both public and private equity to be tradable 24/7 on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) across the Robinhood Chain
- Equity markets have been closed nights and weekends for a century; the team builds the connective tissue between traditional market infrastructure and on-chain systems—issuance, custody, and settlement—to change that
- The Robinhood Chain team designs and scales the underlying decentralized infrastructure across Robinhood
- The team continuously improves Robinhood Chain to provide a best-in-class decentralized platform for trading real-world assets, builds specialized smart contracts, and provides infrastructure services for other Robinhood teams that rely on DeFi
- Design, build, test, and deploy scalable backend services and infrastructure across Robinhood Wallet, Tokenization, and Web3 platform systems, with correctness and auditability as hard requirements
- Build the connective tissue between traditional market infrastructure (brokerage, ledgers, corporate actions) and on-chain systems, including smart contract integrations, chain indexers, and DEX trade flows
- Develop product-facing features and platform enhancements that meet strict correctness and scalability standards
- Identify and implement improvements to system performance, engineering productivity, and risk reduction
- Collaborate closely with product, compliance, client, platform teams, and external partners to deliver impactful technical solutions
Our take
For years, traditional brokers ruled the share trading realm, charging hefty fees that locked out everyday investors. Robinhood emerged as a disruptor, offering commission-free trading and opening the door to a new generation. Since then, expectations have continued to evolve, with investors looking not just to lower costs, but for simpler tools, clearer information, and guidance that makes the market easier to understand.
Robinhood was built to meet those changing expectations, designed from the start as a mobile-first platform that makes investor more accessible and less intimidating for people at every stage of their financial journey. Through its app, users can trade stocks and other financial instruments while benefiting from a clean interface and built-in educational support, helping them move from curiosity to confidence without unnecessary complexity.
Recently, Robinhood has strenghtned its impact too, particularly in the UK. With the launch of AI-powered Digests within its Robinhood Cortex assistant that helps users understand what's driving stock movements in plain English, while upcoming options trading and expanded educational resources add flexibility and depth. Together, these steps position Robinhood as a platform evolving alongside its users, blending technology and education to stay ahead in an ever-changing investment landscape.
