Role
Who you are
- 12+ years building and operating production systems
- Experience operating at a Staff or Principal level
- Proven ability to simplify complex systems and reduce architectural entropy
- Strong background in distributed systems and performance optimization
- Experience building AI-integrated systems (LLM orchestration, tool usage, retrieval, evaluation)
- Comfortable working across backend systems and modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React)
- Experienced designing APIs and durable service contracts
- Effective at driving cross-team technical initiatives
What the job involves
- At AlphaSense, GenSearch is a production, customer-facing generative AI system delivering high-confidence answers across multiple domains
- Our team owns the financial data agent within GenSearch — connecting AI reasoning to structured financial datasets — as well as the financial data web experiences that power fundamentals, M&A, screening, and other core capabilities
- We are hiring a hands-on Principal Engineer to help us:
- Reduce latency in AI-powered financial answers
- Simplify fragmented and legacy-heavy architecture
- Improve cross-dataset querying and screening
- Ship new datasets and product capabilities without increasing systemic complexity
- This role sits at the intersection of AI systems, financial data infrastructure, and product-grade web development
- Optimize orchestration between LLM workflows, structured datasets, and services
- Introduce performance benchmarks, observability standards, and SLO discipline
- Improve reliability and correctness of AI-backed financial responses
- Reduce fragmentation across datasets and services
- Partner with data platform teams to define scalable dataset integration patterns
- Remove legacy complexity while continuing to ship
- Contribute directly to backend and frontend systems powering financial data experiences
- Define durable contracts between AI-generated outputs and frontend consumers
- Ensure performance and usability at both API and product layers
- Drive technical initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams
- Align stakeholders on service boundaries and system design decisions
- Raise the bar for system design, reliability, and operational rigor

Manual research can be a serious pain: financial analysts spend hours every week searching through PDFs one keyword at a time, just to find a single usable insight. To remedy this, AlphaSense has built a smart search engine that slashes research time for analysts, using thousands of sources and a semantic indexing layer that can effectively query finance-specific language.
As a disruptor and market leader in this field, AlphaSense has few direct competitors, being most closely compared to Wolfram Alpha or LexisNexis. It helps that its tools are undoubtedly effective and valued by knowledge professionals: the company counts about 85% of the S&P 100 as customers and is trusted by J.P.Morgan, Microsoft, Credit Suisse and Google, among other major enterprises.
Having raised a large amount of funding over 2022 and 2023, AlphaSense has moved quickly to double down on its expansion in European markets, opening an office in Berlin to support this. With 2024 seeing investment from Singaporean EDBI, it has now set its sights on the Asia-Pacific region. As business intelligence will remain key for enterprises as they compete for market share, AlphaSense is well-placed for additional future growth.
