Who you are
- Proven experience transitioning from waterfall to iterative delivery with a focus on designing pre-production environments for frequent, incremental releases. The IBM i (AS/400) platform, while stable, is ripe for evolution. Opportunities for refactoring, modular design, and DevOps/cloud integration can modernize the platform without compromising its stability
- DevOps & automation: Experience implementing DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, automation, MDCMS version control, and infrastructure-as-code in midrange environments
- IBM i expertise: Deep knowledge of IBM i (AS/400) systems, including LPARs, IFS, DB2/SQL, MQ, partitioning, and core middleware
- Performance analysis: Skilled in optimizing performance using IBM Performance tools (Job Watcher, SQL Performance tools, ACS, etc.) for software development lifecycles within IBM i environments
- Overlap with at least 6 hours US EDT hours daily is expected
- Reliable high-speed internet is a must!
- Experience: Senior, 7+ years

- Familiarity with emerging trends in midrange computing, cloud integration, and developer productivity tools
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to partner with cross-functional teams and provide strategic consulting and full lifecycle product development
- Assess IBM i (AS/400)environments: Evaluate existing Power infrastructure, tools, and processes to identify bottlenecks in software delivery
- Develop optimization strategy: Create a roadmap for modernizing IBM i environments by integrating automation, cloud solutions, and DevOps best practices. Define strategies for self-service environments, CI/CD automation, and infrastructure-as-code to accelerate development and testing
- Leverage marketplace innovations: Research and implement new technologies, tools, and services to enhance developer productivity and reduce cycle times
- Performance & cost optimization: Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs while improving system performance, scalability, and reliability
- Strong communication skills: Collaborate with various teams and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Problem-solving ability: Tackle complex issues and think strategically
- Adaptability: Learn new tools and methodologies in an evolving technology landscape
- Collaboration and teamwork: Work seamlessly with development, operations, and IT teams
- Attention to detail: Ensure system stability and high-quality deliverables by identifying potential issues early
- Independent work & ownership: Manage multiple tasks with minimal direction, continually improve processes, and mentor others within the team and client organizations
- Mentoring and coaching both clients and Modus teammates from the comfort of home
- Deep diving into customer needs and translating them into actionable requirements
