Role
Who you are
- We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Do you have a strong understanding of PII compliance and best practices in data handling and storage
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience as a data engineer, and 8+ years of software engineering experience (including data engineering)
- Expertise with RDMS and Data Warehousing, demonstrating ability to design and optimize data pipelines, systems and architectures
- Experience in managed services for data ingestion/processing with hands-on experience working in AWS environments and operational experience with deploying infrastructure on AWS using Terraform
- Expert-level knowledge of SQL and a solid understanding of NoSQL & graph databases (e.g., Cassandra, Neptune)
- Experience with distributed compute platforms and frameworks, such as Kubernetes/ECS, AWS Lambdas, Spark and distributed storage systems
- Expertise with any of data orchestration platforms such as Airflow, Dagster, Prefect or similar frameworks
What the job involves
- The Data Architecture team builds and supports Kiddom’s data systems
- In addition to improving the core architecture of our curriculum graphs and analytics, they also support other teams in the company and their usage of the Kiddom data platform, with an eye for student data privacy and security
- You will work closely with other departments, including Product, Engineering, and Analytics, to understand and cater to their data needs
- You will also define and document data workflows, pipelines, and transformation processes for clear understanding and knowledge sharing
- Design, implement, and maintain the organization’s data infrastructure, ensuring it meets business requirements and technical standards
- Deploy data pipelines to AWS infrastructure such as EKS, ECS, Lambdas and AWS Glue
- Develop and deploy data pipelines to clean and transform data to support other engineering teams, analytics and AI applications
- Extract and deploy reusable features to Feature stores such as Feast or equivalent
- Evaluate and select appropriate database technologies, tools, and platforms, both on-premises and in the cloud
- Monitor data systems and troubleshoot issues related to data quality, performance, and integrity
Our take
Digital education has become an increasing reality in recent years. Whilst services such as Zoom have provided platforms for remote teaching, the minimal functionality of such services has outlined the lack of digital engagement tools that classrooms require.
Kiddom develops a collaborative learning platform for K-12 schooling, with integrated solutions for remote teaching, in-person school and homework assignments. The platform allows teachers to assign tasks and to collaborate with students on them, whilst the software gathers data to provide insights on student engagement and performance.
The startup currently provides its services to individual teachers for free, but solutions for inter-institutional curriculums come at an annual subscription fee. Kiddom’s approach aims to fill the gap between remote and in-school teaching, at the same time as integrating student analytics to optimize and personalize the way students are educated.
