Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field, with at least two years completed by the start of the internship
Proficiency in 3D CAD software for designing complex parts and assemblies

Strong mechanical aptitude and a proven ability to take hardware projects from concept to reality

What the job involves

Figure is an AI robotics company developing autonomous general-purpose humanoid robots. The goal of the company is to ship humanoid robots with human level intelligence. Figure AI's Reliability team is looking for a motivated and talented Reliability Test Engineering Intern to join our team for an extended internship of 8 to 12 months. In this role, you will be a key contributor to the development and testing of our humanoid hardware systems, ensuring our products are meeting the reliability targets. This is a unique, hands-on opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Design and build custom test stations to perform functional, performance, and reliability testing on key robotic sub-assemblies
Develop mechanical systems incorporating diverse actuation mechanisms, including motors, ballscrews, gearboxes, and feedback devices like torque cells and encoders
Facilitate the electromechanical integration of sensors, motors, and controllers, ensuring proper functionality and communication within the system
Generate detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and documentation, applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 standards
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on hands-on testing, data analysis, and iterative design improvements
Contribute to the root cause analysis and resolution of complex hardware-software integration issues across mechanical, electrical, and control domains

Our take

Humanoid robots are quickly moving from sci-fi to reality, with big tech companies racing to bring them into workplaces, and soon, our homes. It's a booming market, and Figure is one of the big names in the game.

Figure builds human-like robots that are powered by advanced AI that can walk, see, and even understand natural language. Its latest model, the Figure 02, is already piloting in a BMW factory, and its in-house AI system, Helix lets these robots perform complex tasks from simple voice prompts. The company's moving fast, and it's not slowing down anytime soon.

But moving fast comes with baggage. It recently cut ties with OpenAI after claiming a major breakthrough in robot intelligence, and it's now working completely solo. Still, Figure just secured major commercial deals and may be headed for a jaw-dropping $40B valuation. It's a high-stakes field that's as exciting as it is controversial and Figure is certainly one to watch out for.
