Who you are
- A data scientist with a passion for building and deploying models that solve real-world pricing and risk challenges
- Thinks in Probabilities: You’re comfortable treating forecasts as distributions rather than point estimates, using scenario analysis and Monte Carlo simulations to capture uncertainty

- Enjoys End-to-End Ownership: From data exploration and feature engineering to deployment and monitoring, you embrace the full model lifecycle
- Hands-On Experience: You’ve applied advanced analytics or quantitative methods in industry (finance, commodities, logistics, etc.) particularly around pricing or risk
- Proficient in Python & Cloud: You can confidently code in Python and are comfortable working in a cloud environment
- Thrives in a High-Trust Environment: You have a proactive mindset, taking initiative to learn, iterate, and deliver results independently
Desirable
- Exposure to time-series forecasting and advanced ML methods
- Startup or entrepreneurial background: you’re used to ambiguous environments and can set your own course
- Experience building portfolio-level risk models or complex pricing engines in a production environment
- Familiarity with energy markets is a plus, but not mandatory
What the job involves
- Data is at the heart of our core product, RED (Renewable Energy Direct). As our second Data Scientist, you’ll work on RED's high-impact problems and directly influence the future of renewable energy
- Join as our second data scientist and help shape tem.'s future data tech stack and contribute to the development of a world-class data science foundation
- Primarily developing and maintaining statistical and machine learning models that compute risk margins and optimised pricing for our customers
- Incorporate probabilistic frameworks that account for volume and market-price uncertainties, ensuring robust margins under different scenarios
- Work on time-series forecasting models for energy consumption/generation and underlying market prices
- Aggregate and model diverse data streams (existing contracts, pipeline deals) at varying horizons (hourly to yearly) to inform portfolio decisions
- Research & Prototyping: Experiment with new algorithms or modeling techniques (e.g., scenario analysis, optimization frameworks)
- Owning the full machine learning lifecycle, from research and development to deployment and monitoring
- Current Tech Stack: AWS (Lambda, API Gateway), Python, SQL, MLFlow, Postgres (RDS), dbt, Quicksight, Terraform/Terragrunt

Our take
Tem is a next-gen energy transactions company that changes the way renewable energy is bought, sold and powered. Rebalancing the playing field away from "Big Energy", tem creates affordable, traceable and smart energy transaction management tools.
The company is still in its early stages, but it looks set to provide businesses and consumers access to the same financial benefits as Big Energy companies by distributing its own purchased energy to customers. Once they’re signed up, customers are matched with a suitable generator, and the tem platform helps execute contracts, take payments, and manage invoicing.
This is a truly disruptive concept - and could prove to be a successful one. Whilst UK consumers are notoriously hesitant to switch providers, recent soaring energy prices could lure many into giving it a go.
tem is going to get a run for it’s money, though. A similar platform in the US, Tesseract, is slated for launch around the same time, and with an ex-Revolut founder and handsome funding under its belt, is generating real buzz.

- Core hours are from 10:00-16:00 and 10:00-13:00 on Fridays (UK time). This is the time when meetings take place. We try to work asynchronously to avoid meeting creep. As an Individual Contributor, expect to spend around 2-3 hours in recurring meetings each week. As a People Leader, expect to spend 1 hour with each team member every two weeks, along with 3 hours per week in recurring meetings. If you don't have any meetings on a Friday afternoon and have wrapped up everything for the week, take the afternoon off! Note: If you’re in a customer-facing team like Commercial, we still want to speak to our customers and offer an exceptional service. We will create flexibility within the team, wherever possible.
