Overview was founded to help manufacturers identify manufacturing defects through AI computer vision. Its camera stations and software are used by a number of successful brands including men’s grooming company Harry’s and leading guitar manufacturer Gibson.
AI and robotics are making inroads in the industrial sector, particularly for completing repetitive, practical tasks. However, when it comes to computer vision – understanding objects through images – manufacturer uptake remains quite low in spite of serious interest in the technology.
There are a number of factors behind this, including infrastructure, data set quality, and potential AI bias. However, Overview is backing itself to overcome these hurdles. One big reason for its confidence is that operators can choose to control cameras manually, allowing for speedier inspection, rather than fully automated, until trust has been built.
That Blumberg Capital along with GV, Momenta, and Bain Capital have all seen fit to invest in the startup shows that they too are confident in its growth potential.
