Role
Who you are
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 3+ years of engineering experience in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment
- Experience as a full stack engineer with React/TypeScript and Go
- Experience designing secure, scalable, performant software on cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS)
- Experience leading engineers on large features in partnership with Product Management and other stakeholders — breaking work into workstreams, estimating timelines, and coaching through reviews and retrospectives
- Comfort with, or strong enthusiasm for, AI-assisted development tools as a force multiplier
- Clear, objective written and in-person communication, including the ability to articulate technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Nice to have: experience in payments, fintech, or money movement
- We are open to both intermediate level (SDE2) and senior level (SDE3) candidates for this position

- It is one of Remitly's fastest-growing lines of business, live across North America and 23 EU countries, and the product surface is still being defined
- We're hiring Full-Stack Software Development Engineers to join Remitly Business Engineering in Burnaby
- You'll build the experiences that bring businesses onto Remitly and keep them sending: onboarding and business verification (KYB), the send flows, payment requests and receive, and the reporting businesses need to run their books
- You'll own features end to end: Go services on the backend, a TypeScript GraphQL layer in the middle, and React / React Native on the front, and you’ll ship to production your code often
- This is an AI-native team. We work spec-first: acceptance criteria and tests are written before implementation, coding agents do much of the construction, and engineers spend their time on design judgment, verification, and the product calls an agent can't make
- You'll be expected to use tools like Claude Code and Cursor as part of your daily practice, to be skeptical of what they produce, and to help the team get better at using them
- Design and ship full stack features end to end — from React frontends to backend services, APIs, and data — breaking complex work into parallel workstreams and driving it from design through launch
- Use modern AI-assisted and spec-driven development to move faster, while owning the architecture, correctness, and quality that tooling cannot guarantee on its own
- Set the technical standard with systems that are well-tested, resilient, extensible, and scalable, and that make it easy for others to contribute
- Build for money movement at scale, delivering idempotent, observable flows with correct ledgering, reconciliation, and compliance gating
- Uphold our Foundational Excellence standards for security, reliability, and observability, resolving risks before they become incidents
- Develop and deliver short- and long-term roadmaps, making tradeoffs across priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation
- Mentor and grow the team through code, design, and architecture reviews, and represent Remitly's values and technical bar in interviews
- Collaborate with partners across Product, Design, Analytics, Compliance, Infrastructure, and Operations to turn customer needs into scalable solutions

The emergence of digital banks with low transaction fees cross-country has increased competition in a space where Remitly was dominant for many years. The company must continue to innovate its product to ensure it is the go-to place for these types of payments.
That said, Remitly continues to partner with exciting companies and improve their service for loyal customers. The company is setting its sights beyond its core remittance service, such as through the introduction of Passbook, an app that allows customers to access digital banking through a partner bank.
