Role
Who you are
- 8+ years in data science or advanced analytics, with depth in at least two of: forecasting and LTV, marketing mix modeling, pricing research, or causal inference
- 3+ years in people management, with a proven track record of developing and managing high-performing data science or analytics teams
- Experience using Python for statistical analysis and modeling, working SQL, and fluency in experimentation and causal inference
- Strong statistical foundation: regression, time-series forecasting, Bayesian methods, and quasi-experimental design (e.g., difference-in-differences, synthetic control)
- A track record of building and defending models that inform decisions — a budget, a price, a plan
- Excellent oral and written communication, with a track record of turning complex analysis into clear recommendations that drive executive decisions
- Experience partnering with VP-level and above stakeholders, reframing and scoping their asks rather than only delivering what is requested
- Actively uses AI in analytical work, with a clear point of view on where it helps, where it fails, and how its output should be checked
- Degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience
What the job involves
- The Data & Analytics team is Justworks' data and AI center of excellence - a connected set of functions spanning business intelligence, data science, analytics engineering, platform data/ML engineering and AI builders
- We've grown significantly over the last several years and continue to build momentum across the business, leveling up maturity in how we deliver insights, govern data, and enable the company to make better decisions
- You'll find a highly collaborative & diverse group motivated by craft, shared learning, and a genuine commitment to growing our impact for customers while evolving how we work together for our people
- The Business Intelligence team is central to how we turn data into decisions by owning the reporting foundations that keep teams oriented and delivering the insights & analyses that drive how we understand, diagnose, and grow the business
- Our BI function at Justworks has transitioned from a distributed, embedded model to a centralized, strategic function, and we continue to evolve toward a more broadly self-service, AI-enabled future. That transformation is the core of this role: building out self-service intelligence products, shaping the craft of analytics, coaching analysts along a career path from skilled practitioner to strategic partner, and holding the line on rigor while encouraging faster, simpler answers where appropriate
- As Senior Manager, Business Intelligence, you'll lead a dedicated team of analysts within our broader BI organization, serving as a strategic thought partner to senior functional leaders across Justworks. You will own the full cycle of analytical work: framing the right questions, developing rigorous analyses, validating findings and delivering outputs that functional leaders can trust and act on
- Build and develop a high-performing Business Intelligence team, coaching analysts toward strategic problem framing, actionable recommendations, and confident stakeholder engagement while creating growth paths that support their long-term advancement
- Partner with senior functional leaders to define and prioritize the right analytical initiatives, going beyond the initial request to fully frame the problem and design the right technical approach
- Own analytical output quality across key business domains, ensuring work is accurate, well-framed, and tied to questions that matter
- Lead the team through the ongoing evolution of the BI operating model, including how work is triaged and prioritized, what kinds of work BI owns versus routes to self-service, and how stakeholder relationships are structured
- Drive adoption of new BI tooling and self-service capabilities as the team transitions to a modern BI platform, partnering with Analytics Engineering and Data Governance to ensure analysts and stakeholders are equipped to work effectively in the new environment
- Embed AI-assisted methods into the team's workflow, helping analysts develop practical fluency with AI tools and beginning to shape what AI-enabled analytical work looks like in your domain
- Collaborate with Analytics Engineering, Data Governance, Data Science, and and Data Platform teams to ensure analytical output is grounded in shared metric definitions, certified data models, and trusted data foundations
- As a Senior Manager, Business Intelligence, how results are achieved is paramount for your success and ultimately results in our success as an organization. In this role, your foundational knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal attributes are anchored in the following competencies:
- Plans & Aligns - Ensures individual actions support company mission; communicates effectively; understands urgency and plans accordingly
- Balances Stakeholders - Understands internal and external stakeholder requirements, expectations, and needs and acts fairly despite conflicting demands of stakeholders
- Influence and Leadership - Fosters a community of knowledge-sharing, collaboration, mentorship, and forward-thinking across the organization
- Manages Complexity - Makes sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems
- Good Judgment - Pauses before acting; asks questions to fully understand context; applies critical thinking and takes ownership of outcomes
- Teamwork & Communication - Honors diverse thoughts and opinions; leverages unique skills to maximize efficiency
- Skills and Knowledge - Demonstrates capacity to actively learn and apply specific domain knowledge, know-how, and best practices to continually enhance and improve
Our take
Justworks operates in an increasingly crowded space of all-in-one business operation suites, that include tools like human resources, payroll, employee management, benefits, and others that businesses critically need to operate as they scale.
Globally, human resource management has become an extremely fertile field, creating great opportunity for Justworks to continue to grow. The company is regarded as a market leader, but does see competition in the shape of Paychex Flex, Rippling, Paylocity, and TriNet, among others.
Justworks' solutions have proven extremely popular with SMEs, and this has not gone unnoticed by investors - with the company picking up considerable amounts of funding. The company is known to have sights on going public, though these were delayed somewhat by market conditions. That said, it has continued to expand operations and acquired Via in 2024, signalling that its going strong.
